Tickets suck
« on: December 22, 2005, 07:11:58 AM »
So im driving home from high river near okotokes doing a reasonable speed of 166 kmh  with my dog in shot gun and a fucking prick cop had to pull me over. I figured 400 / 500 bucks most, but noooooooooo a fucking court appearance is manditory. Fucking guy. I asked him if he would be there and he said if im not your case is dismissed, I told him is there any christmas special and he replied " as i said I might not be there" wink wink. So I figure, why the fuck give someone a court date when youre going to get off anyways....fuck.

PS: fat cops are funny.

Don't worry I'm coming home soon and I'm technically half a lawyer now.  I got your back.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have some death to defy.

Pfff atleast you get a  wink wink. I get, "Here is $400 worth of tickets! Bye!"

Oh, and 50km over the speed limit from my experience is about $350...

Ha... I've been in the same situation.  I was ripping home one night after work down Macleod Trail doing 155 in the 60 zone.  I got one of those mandatory court appearances.

You should go early and try to settle with the prosecutor out of court. Because if the cop does show up it's an automatic license suspension.  You can probably bargain it down out of court to 400 bucks or something and not lose your license.

Yes, the lesson of the day is if you are going to speed, do it well.  That fateful minivan ticket day!!!

Jose - 15km over the limit, $82 ticket
Bob - 95km over the limit, dangerous driving, etc, etc, etc, - $0 ticket.

I believe if you are 50 km/h over the limit it's supposed to be an automatic loss of license.

This is how it works... you'll got to the office and wait in line for a bit too see one of the people at the windows.  There you can ask to talk to the prosecutor.  The prosecutors work out of offices that are just down the hall.  Once it's your turn you can go talk to them and ask what kind of deal they can offer you and beg for mercy.  If you like the deal, the prosecutor will sign some papers and you go pay whatever amount they say.

Otherwise you would have to plead guilty or non-guilty back at the main windows and have an actual court date set.  This would be the date that the cop could possibly not show up at, therefore letting you off scott free.  But if he did show up you'd have a standardized punishment which may include losing your license.

That's my experience, hope it helps.
