Open Chat / Baseball?
« on: February 23, 2007, 04:46:27 PM »
Okay folks, I think I may have decided to become a baseball fan.  I know it isn't that simple to just become a "fan" but I think the time his here.  I mean hockey and baseball would be two good sports, their seasons are pretty much perfectly aligned to leave one and start on the other.

So anyway, any one actually like baseball?  Do I have everyone's support in becoming a fan?  I need some input here.

Open Chat / Hockey Pool?
« on: January 19, 2007, 05:16:23 PM »
So I'm involved in a hockey pool here at school on a website called SportingNews.  It is a pretty decent salary cap game.  Basically you have $30 million and have to pick a roster of 7 players (4 forwards, 2 defence, and one goalie.  You get 2 trades a week every Thursday and player values change based on the market so you can actually end up with more than $30 million with smart picks to make better players.

The website has the regular season split into two.  Season 2 starts January 26th so if there was interest I could set up a private league for us and we could all join and compete.  For fun or cash I don't care.  Trouble is unless someone wanted to collect over yonder it would have to be on an IOU basis which likely wouldn't work so I'm leaning towards just for fun and bragging rights.

It is pretty easy and a minimal commitment, you can put as much work or as little as you want into research.  Let me know soon in this thread, even if there is just four of us we could do it.  I think it would be fun and give us something to trash talk about on the forum.

This topic came up today at school (not in class don't be silly).  I think we need to debate and figure this out for the sake of the world.

Open Chat / Website a Day
« on: January 11, 2007, 03:23:48 PM »
Alright so for Xmas I got this website a day calendar that has a weird or interesting or funny website everyday.  I figure if there are any that are notable I can share them with you all here.  Note that I will not be posting everyday because some just aren't that good.  You may have noticed that we are now 11 days into the year so I'll play catch up right now.

Drug Calculator:  The US government lets you figure out how much you spend on booze, cigarettes, etc. and what you could have bought instead.

Mummification:  Who knew you could still get mummified for the low cost of $70k.  Even your pets can experience it.

Stuff on my Cat:  Exactly what it sounds like.

Until next time.

Jokes / Movie Joke
« on: December 05, 2006, 03:31:54 PM »
Steven Spielberg was discussing his new project - an action docudrama about famous composers starring top movie stars. Sylvester Stallone, Steven Segall, Bruce Willis, and Arnold Schwarzenegger were all present. Spielberg strongly desired the box office 'oomph' of these superstars, so he was prepared to allow them to select whatever composers they would portray, as long as they were very famous.

"Well," started Stallone, "I've always admired Mozart. I would love to play him."

"Chopin has always been my favorite, and my image would improve if people saw me playing the piano," said Willis. "I'll play him."

"I've always been partial to Strauss and his waltzes," said Segall. "I'd like to play him."

Spielberg was very pleased with these choices. "Sounds splendid." Then, looking at Schwarzenegger, he asked, "Who do you want to be, Arnold?"

So Arnold says, "I'll be Bach."

Jokes / To drink or invest?
« on: November 26, 2006, 07:28:28 PM »
If you had bought $1000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00.

With Enron, you would have $16.50 left.

With Worldcom, you would have less than $5.00 left.

If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser (the beer, not the stock) one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have $214.00.

Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.
