As some of you may or may not know, I'm a huge follower of architecture. Today Encana unveiled their new Calgary headquarters. It is designed by world famous architect Norman Foster. He is one of my all time favourite designers. It should break ground sometime next year.
So here is the rendering. It will be the tallest tower in Calgary and the fourth tallest building in Canada. What you can't see from these pictures is that it has a boomerang like shape. It will also include shopping and public space on its lower floors.
I'm so freaking excited that our city will have such a stunning modern building in our downtown core!

I designed a building just like that with constux 10 years ago. Those bastards copied me!

Here is 81 pages of forum discussion on it.

Have fun with your building porn shad.

Ha ha ha, I already go to that forum on a daily basis. Yes, I'm an architecture geek.

To Bad you live in Edmonton now!

Not for long!

Holy block my fucking view Batman... I am going to burn that place down time and time again as they attempt to build it, just so it never happens!
-
Ha ha ha... what building do you work in?
BTW here is a view from thew south. It's fucking wicked!
-
I cant wait to pee off the top of it while throwing pennies.
-
I think it will be neat when it's done. I can't wait till we can drink in front of its majestic glory
-
JERKS!!!!
-
What does it block your view of exactly? The Cecil Hotel and the crack junkies in the East Village? Wouldn't you rather look at a fine piece of architectural design instead?
-
how tall is it exactly?
-
Its the second tallest building in Canada.
-
Which still doesn't answer the question. That's like me saying: "It's bigger than the rest of the buildings in Calgary".
Okay fine I'll try to be a bit more helpful, instead of just trashing Alston.
From Wikipedia, and it is a lot of speculation (Shad likely has a better source):
The EnCana Office Complex (also referred to as "EnCentre") is a planned highrise complex being built in downtown Calgary, Alberta by EnCana Corporation[1], North America's second largest natural gas producer. Early schematic design concepts suggest that the project may consist of a complex of towers (perhaps two or more) over two blocks. The tallest of these towers could be 60-stories tall, which would make it taller than the current tallest tower in Western Canada, the Petro-Canada Centre (also in Calgary). Conflicting reports now suggest that it will be one single tower around 70 stories tall and possibly over 1000 feet(305m)making it the tallest building in Canada. Other sources suggest a two tower complex spanning the entire surface of two blocks, with a second tower of 40 to 50 storeys connected at 6th storey level over 6th Avenue[2].

Yes Shad, I do enjoy the view of crack village thank you! It will be missed... *tear*

Sorry Guys, here's the info. It will be the fourth tallest building in Canada and the tallest building in Canada outside of Toronto. It's height comes in at 247m (810ft) with 59 floors.
It is also the first tower outside of Toronto to be built with glass and steel, not concrete like the rest of Calgary's tall buildings.
It has an atrium that will be an open space all the way from the ground floor up to the 59th floor. There is 3 garden levels in the atrium as well as numerous "floating" atrium pods (you can see these in the picture taken from the south if you look hard).
Here is a good story which goes over some of it's features.

Apparently it has been dubbed the "Encana Banana".....
-
Oh, and by the way its official name is "The Bow" because of it's bow-like shape and it's proximity to the Bow river.
-
Here's the site plan, notice that the block to the south will also have some new 7 story buildings which will contain shopping and cultural space. This southern block will incorperate the existing York and St. Louis buildings. The entire project will be connected via. the +15 system.
The second pic is of what the Calgary skyline is going to look like when all of the towers currently under construction are finished in 2011
-
The innovative design also offers downtowners wind shelter from westerlies, keeping the smell of hobos, and crack heads to a minimum.

Check it out in High Res... look at all of the pods in the sky atrium... friggin wicked!!!
