March Madness Bracket
« on: March 08, 2008, 04:59:51 PM »
Alright, seeing how everyone is enjoying the Hockey Pool I thought we might like to try a March Madness bracket as well.  As some of you may know March Madness is college basketball, which may sound boring but I find doing the bracket can make it entertaining.  It starts in two weeks and the major portion of it happens over a Thursday-Sunday.  There are 64 teams that get wittled to I think 16 that weekend which makes for a lot of games and some can actually be pretty exciting if you combine some beers.

I have created a group on CBS Sportsline.  I think that it can be accessed here:

http://thegongshow.mayhem.sportsline.com/

First time users will have to sign in.  It should be self explanatory but if you need any help let me know.  Once registered I am hoping that you go to our group's page and are asked for a password.  In any case the info is:

Group Name:  The Gong Show
Password:  gong

If you guys can let me know how it all works out that would be great.  Once you are signed up I think using the link I put above should take you straight to the group page.  The picks aren't open until next Sunday.  But at that time just put in who you think will win right to the end and wait for the games to begin.  I think each round has different point weights and I believe the seed is weighted in there too.  Suffice it to say if you get your picks right you will get points.

I know that most of you have no idea who is good and bad with college basketball, but neither do I and that is the best part.  It means we all have a chance.  All the teams are ranked by seed (1-16 in each of the four "divisions").  Therefore it is pretty easy to see who is "better" going in.  No research required (though I suppose it couldn't hurt).  Just pick and pray that your random picks are better than the next guys random picks.

Hope you all join.  Let me know if there are any problems etc.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have some death to defy.

Okay so either everyone is slow or no one wants to play.  In either case I realized that sportingnews has a fantasy basketball bracket as well.

Therefore, in the hopes that some of you will play with your current Sportingnews account I have decided to switch it to sportingnews.  Plus that site is way better.

So go to the Sportingnews Website that is used for the hockey pool.  Find the college basketball pull down menu up top and select the bracket challenge.  Put in your Bracket name (same as hockey team name) and then join an existing league.

League:  The Gong Show
Pass:  gong

Then wait for me to beat you all.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have some death to defy.

Seriously, I don't know any more than any of you.  It is all worth it if at least one afternoon/evening we get drunk and shout at the television.

P.S.:  I'll still win.

With three whole entries I will deem this pool an overwhelming break out success.  It appears as though Bob is the champion.  It is not yet over but we have the same team winning, and that team has already been eliminated.  Safe to say that we will not be accumulating further points.

Note:  Bob and I nearly doubled the points that Mike had.  If anyone wants to hold that over him so he doesn't feel too great about winning the hockey pool.

Final standings:

1. GongShowBob 114.00
2. Keirstead 109.00
3. Badwins 60.00

We should have done a baseball one to see who is the ultimate winner.  But even I don't care enough to bother with that again.
